Treasures found by an expat living in Indonesia
Hi Henk. Do you know the name of this female vocalist? I really like her work, and I can't tell by the cover, because I can't always figure out male/female names and the like. This is such a nice album. Thank you.Oh, one more thing, having nothing to do with OM Nirmala. I've been getting into Rita Sugiarto a lot these days. I sort of get the sense she's the Micheal Jackson of Indonesia, with her range and professionalism. Is she highly regarded in Indonesia? She sure is highly regarded at my house.
It's Bubun Komaria.... Rita Sugiarto? I think I've got a shit load of her records actually, will look if I can dig up some, not an artist that I've heard a lot about really.... Some 10 years back or so I bought up what was left of the record collection from a radio station in the small city of Kadipaten, close to Cirebon, some 1200 records or so, for around 250 dollars, almost all of them 70's and 80's pop almost all of them without original covers, there's many, many records I haven't even listened to....
Pffff.... Man... I found two albums from her and.... to be honest.... TERRIBLE schmaltzy soft pop, if you would play it in an elevator people would probably start killing each other and eating each other it's that bad.... I probably just have the two worst albums from her :)
Schmaltzy from Rita Sugiarto? My God, the admittedly small collection, and also the oldest I have by her is the highest energy Dangdut I've ever heard.
Well maybe I will find some one day but what I have from her.... really.... horrible
Sometimes these artists kick ass when they first start out, even with a hard garage sound, and then end up making you sick when they get older. I guess Rita was one of those, because I just listened to her on YouTube and it was as bad as you say - nothing at all like the stuff I've come to know her for.
That's the story of like 90% of all artists here I'm afraid....
